DExH-box helicase 9 (DHX9)

Target
DHX9
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Helicase, Transcription factor
01

Overview

DHX9 is a member of the DExH-box family of RNA and DNA helicases. It is an NTP-dependent enzyme that catalyzes the unwinding of both double-stranded DNA and RNA as well as hybrid structures such as R-loops and G-quadruplexes. The protein plays central roles in multiple aspects of nucleic acid metabolism, including transcription, translation, replication, splicing, microRNA biogenesis, transport, and DNA repair. DHX9 is overexpressed in several cancer types; depletion leads to antiproliferative effects on various cancer cell lines. Mutations or dysregulation can also contribute to neurological disorders due to its essential role in neuronal RNA metabolism.
