Overview

DHH antisense RNA 1 (DHH-AS1) is an antisense long non-coding RNA transcribed from the locus of the Desert hedgehog (DHH) gene. Antisense lncRNAs in general are known to regulate gene expression at multiple levels, frequently impacting neighboring or overlapping protein-coding genes through mechanisms such as transcriptional interference, chromatin modification, epigenetic regulation, mRNA stability, or direct RNA duplex formation[1][2][3]. However, as of now there is no published functional characterization, disease association, or established therapeutic relevance for DHH-AS1 itself. The Desert hedgehog gene encodes a protein important for developmental signaling, but the antisense RNA transcribed from the locus (DHH-AS1) is currently a gene annotation with no experimentally validated biological function or direct role in disease. In general, antisense lncRNAs have emerged as important regulators in cancer and other diseases—often studied as modulators of their sense gene—but for DHH-AS1 specifically, further research is needed to confirm its activity, mechanisms, and clinical implications[1][2].
