Diacylglycerol Acyltransferase 2 (DGAT2)

Target
DGAT2
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Acyltransferase
01

Overview

Diacylglycerol acyltransferase-2 (DGAT2) is an integral membrane protein and a key enzyme in lipid metabolism. It catalyzes the final step in the synthesis of triacylglycerol (TG), a major form of energy storage in eukaryotic cells, by covalently attaching a fatty acyl-CoA to diacylglycerol. This reaction is essential for lipid droplet formation and energy homeostasis. Abnormal expression or activity has been linked to metabolic disorders such as obesity, hepatic steatosis (fatty liver disease), insulin resistance, and cardiovascular diseases due to altered lipid accumulation or mobilization.
