Hepatic diacylglycerol acyltransferase 2 (None)

Target
None
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Acyltransferase
01

Overview

Hepatic diacylglycerol acyltransferase 2 (DGAT2) is a key enzyme involved in triglyceride synthesis, particularly within the liver. It catalyzes the final step of triglyceride formation by transferring an acyl group from acyl-CoA to diacylglycerol, resulting in the production of triacylglycerol (triglyceride). Its inhibition reduces hepatic steatosis without causing harmful side effects like increased inflammation or impaired glucose handling. Both small-molecule drugs and RNAi approaches are being developed to target this enzyme therapeutically against NAFLD/NASH.
