Overview

Diacylglycerol O-acyltransferase 2-like protein 6 (DGAT2L6) is a member of the DGAT2 enzyme family, which catalyzes the acylation of diacylglycerol to form triacylglycerol, the final and committed step in triglyceride biosynthesis. DGAT2L6 is classified as an enzyme with transferase activity, probably using fatty acyl-CoA as a substrate; however, it does not have wax synthase activity and its substrate and physiological role may be distinct from canonical DGAT enzymes. The DGAT2 family consists of several members, all containing a conserved diacylglycerol acyltransferase domain and is implicated in lipid synthesis and storage in eukaryotes. DGAT2L6 is found within the endoplasmic reticulum membrane like other DGAT family enzymes, but there is limited evidence regarding its therapeutic relevance, disease association, or interaction with drugs or as a clinical biomarker. There is no evidence that DGAT2L6 is a therapeutic target or established disease gene. The protein is validated at the sequence and structure level but lacks targeted drugs, safety data, and biomarker validation. Information is consistent with Diacylglycerol O-acyltransferase 2-like protein 6 as the canonical, full scientific name.
