Diazepam binding inhibitor-like 5, pseudogene (DBIL5P), also known as endozepine-like peptide 2 pseudogene (ELP2P), is classified as a **pseudogene** related to the DBI/ACBP gene family[7]. While DBI encodes a protein involved in modulating GABA type A receptor activity and lipid metabolism, **DBIL5P does not code for a functional protein product** and is not associated with known biological functions or disease processes. Such pseudogenes may be transcribed in some tissues, but there is no evidence that they act as receptors, enzymes, or therapeutic targets. Most pseudogenes, including DBIL5P, are considered non-functional remnants of evolutionarily related protein-coding genes[6][7]. Although there is growing research on the potential for pseudogenes and some noncoding RNAs to possess regulatory or rare peptide-coding capabilities[6], there is no specific evidence that DBIL5P is translated or functional in humans. Instead, it best serves as a reference point for evolutionary studies of the acyl-CoA binding protein gene family[4][8]. DBIL5P is a pseudogene, **not a therapeutic target, not a receptor, and does not currently have characterized molecular function, disease roles, or associated drugs**[7][6]. Its only confirmed identity is as a non-functional copy in the diazepam binding inhibitor gene family.
