A Dicer substrate is a double-stranded RNA molecule designed or naturally occurring as a target for cleavage by the Dicer enzyme. Synthetic Dicer-substrate siRNAs (DsiRNAs) are engineered for optimal processing, resulting in efficient gene silencing. They are typically 25-27 base pairs in length and are processed into siRNAs that guide RISC to target mRNA for degradation.
Dicer substrates are processed by Dicer into siRNAs, which are then loaded onto the RISC complex to target and cleave mRNA molecules, leading to gene silencing.
