Dietary Fat Binding

Molecular classification
Fatty acid-binding proteins (FABPs), Protein, Other
01

Overview

Dietary fat binding refers to the molecular or pharmacological process of interacting with and sequestering dietary fats (primarily triglycerides and long-chain fatty acids) in the gastrointestinal tract, thereby reducing their absorption into the body. This mechanism is a target for weight management therapies and metabolic disease interventions, as it can decrease caloric intake from fats and modulate lipid metabolism. Fatty acid-binding proteins (FABPs) play a key role in lipid transport and metabolism. Exogenous compounds can also act as "fat binders".
