DiGeorge syndrome-related protein pseudogene

Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Non-coding DNA, Other
01

Overview

The DiGeorge syndrome-related protein pseudogene (ENSG00000224836) is a pseudogene, a nonfunctional DNA segment bearing sequence similarity to a functional gene, sometimes related by homology to genes in the DiGeorge syndrome (22q11.2 deletion syndrome) chromosomal region[2][4]. Pseudogenes do not produce functional proteins and are not considered drug targets, though their presence in the genome can sometimes complicate genetic studies due to sequence similarity with real genes[4]. There is no evidence that this pseudogene has any direct biological role, clinical significance, or relevance as a therapeutic target[2][4].

02

Biological functions

Often no direct biological function; most pseudogenes are nonfunctionalRare exceptions may involve regulation of related genes through RNA, but there is no evidence for such a role for this specific pseudogene
03

Disease associations

Other (pseudogenes may rarely be involved in gene regulation or as genetic markers, but there is no established disease role for this pseudogene)
