The digoxin-sensitive sodium-potassium ATPase (Na⁺/K⁺-ATPase) is a transmembrane enzyme essential for maintaining cellular ion gradients. It actively transports sodium and potassium ions against their concentration gradients using ATP, playing a critical role in resting membrane potential, cell volume regulation, secondary active transport, and signal transduction. Cardiac glycosides like digoxin inhibit this enzyme, increasing intracellular calcium and enhancing cardiac contractility.
