Dipeptidyl peptidase 3 pseudogene 2 (DPP3P2) is classified as a pseudogene, meaning it is a genomic DNA sequence similar to the protein-coding DPP3 gene but contains defects that prevent it from encoding a functional protein. While DPP3 is a zinc-dependent metallopeptidase implicated in cardiovascular homeostasis and cancer, DPP3P2 itself does not code for an active enzyme. Instead, DPP3P2 and related pseudogenes have been proposed as potential biomarkers in certain cancers, especially as supporting elements in diagnostic panels for diseases such as breast and prostate cancer. There is no evidence that DPP3P2 is an active therapeutic target, nor does it have known interacting drugs, mechanisms of action, or safety concerns in therapy[3][5]. Pseudogenes like DPP3P2 may play roles as non-coding RNAs or regulatory elements, but their function is largely experimental and not directly implicated in canonical protein-driven biology.
