Target intelligence / Profile preview

Dipeptidyl Peptidase 8 (DPP8)

Target
DPP8
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Serine protease, Peptidase S9B
01

Overview

Dipeptidyl peptidase 8 (DPP8) is an intracellular serine protease that cleaves dipeptides from the N-terminus of polypeptides, specifically at proline or alanine residues. It belongs to the peptidase S9B family and shares structural and functional similarities with DPP4. DPP8 is ubiquitously expressed and plays roles in protein maturation, degradation, and immune regulation. Inhibition of DPP8, particularly in conjunction with its homolog DPP9, can activate inflammasomes and induce pyroptosis, highlighting potential therapeutic implications and safety concerns.
