Target intelligence / Profile preview
The diphtheria toxin A chain is the N-terminal fragment of the diphtheria toxin, produced by *Corynebacterium diphtheriae*. It is an enzyme (ADP-ribosyltransferase) that inhibits protein synthesis in eukaryotic cells by ADP-ribosylating elongation factor 2 (eEF-2), leading to cell death. It is used as a protein delivery vehicle, but has safety concerns due to its high toxicity.
Catalyzes ADP-ribosylation of eukaryotic elongation factor 2 (eEF-2), inactivating it and halting protein synthesis.
