Overview

CRM197 is a genetically detoxified mutant of diphtheria toxin used as a carrier protein in conjugate vaccines. The G52E mutation abolishes its ADP-ribosyltransferase activity, rendering it non-toxic while preserving its immunogenicity and ability to conjugate to polysaccharides and haptens. This makes it an effective tool for eliciting robust immune responses against bacterial pathogens, particularly in infants.
