Direct killing of tumor cells by CIK

Overview

"Direct killing of tumor cells by CIK" does not refer to a specific molecule or receptor. Instead, it describes the process by which cytokine-induced killer (CIK) cells—a heterogeneous population of ex vivo expanded T lymphocytes—directly lyse tumor cells through mechanisms such as engagement of natural killer receptors like NKG2D and secretion of cytolytic molecules including perforin and Fas ligand. This activity is MHC-unrestricted and targets both hematological and solid tumors. The term is not suitable as a canonical therapeutic target because it represents an immune effector function rather than an individual protein, gene, or defined molecular entity that can be directly targeted by drugs or biologics.
