Direct viral-mediated tumor cell lysis refers to the process by which oncolytic viruses selectively infect and destroy cancer cells through their replication cycle, leading to the physical rupture (lysis) of tumor cells. This mechanism is a cornerstone of oncolytic virotherapy, a form of cancer treatment that exploits viruses' natural or engineered ability to target and kill malignant cells while sparing normal tissue.
