Overview

DIS3L antisense RNA 1 (DIS3L-AS1) is a long noncoding RNA gene transcribed antisense to the DIS3L locus, which encodes a cytoplasmic exosome 3'-5' exonuclease protein. While DIS3L itself is an essential exoribonuclease in mRNA turnover and RNA quality control[3][5], DIS3L-AS1 is a noncoding transcript with as yet poorly understood function. Antisense lncRNAs often regulate expression of their cognate gene either by transcriptional interference or RNA-mediated mechanisms, but the specific biological and disease relevance of DIS3L-AS1 has not been characterized in main databases or research literature. Current evidence places DIS3L-AS1 among the large class of lncRNAs with hypothesized regulatory functions, not as a classic drug or therapeutic target. This distinguishes it from the protein-coding DIS3L gene, which encodes a cytoplasmic exoribonuclease involved in mRNA metabolism and embryonic development[3][5].
