This circular RNA is characterized by its high stability and resistance to exonucleases, making it a persistent regulator within the cellular environment (PubMed: 32498355). In the context of oncology, circDCBLD2 is frequently overexpressed and functions as an oncogenic driver in various solid tumors, including colorectal, gastric, and lung cancers. Its primary mechanism of action involves acting as a 'miRNA sponge,' where it sequesters microRNAs such as miR-345-5p and miR-145-5p, thereby relieving the translational repression of their target oncogenes (PubMed: 33414444). This activity promotes key malignant phenotypes, such as increased cell proliferation, migration, and invasion.
