Disease-Causing Extracellular Protein

Molecular classification
Protein, Extracellular protein
01

Overview

A disease-causing extracellular protein is a protein located outside the cell that, when dysregulated or targeted by autoantibodies, directly contributes to the pathogenesis of various diseases. Selective blockade refers to therapeutic strategies aimed at specifically inhibiting or neutralizing these proteins to prevent or treat disease without affecting normal physiological processes. These proteins are validated drug targets due to their accessibility and direct role in pathology. Selective blockade aims for high specificity—neutralizing only pathological forms while preserving normal functions elsewhere. Newer technologies enable not just inhibition but actual removal/degradation of these targets from diseased tissues selectively.
