Disintegrin and metalloproteinase domain-containing protein 17 (ADAM17), also known as tumor necrosis factor-α-converting enzyme (TACE), is a membrane-bound metalloprotease that sheds various cell surface proteins, including cytokines, growth factors, receptors, and adhesion molecules. It plays a crucial role in inflammation, cancer, cardiovascular disease, and neurodegeneration by regulating signaling pathways through the controlled release of these proteins. Regulation occurs at multiple levels, and dysregulation can contribute to several diseases.
