Disintegrin and metalloproteinase domain-containing protein 28 (ADAM28) is a membrane-anchored and secreted metalloendopeptidase belonging to the ADAM family. It is encoded by the ADAM28 gene on chromosome 8p21.2. ADAM28 is involved in processes such as cell–cell and cell–matrix interactions, ectodomain shedding of surface proteins (notably FAS ligand and CD40 ligand), and plays roles in immune cell migration and possibly sperm maturation. It has both transmembrane and secreted isoforms. Its expression and activity have been associated with disease states including certain cancers and neurological conditions. As of now, ADAM28 is a putative biomarker and an experimental drug target due to its involvement in cell adhesion, proteolysis, and tissue remodeling[1][3][4][5][7][9].
