DLEC1 pseudogene 1 (DLEC1P1), also known as deleted in lung and esophageal cancer 1 pseudogene 1, is classified as a pseudogene in the human genome[5][7]. It is a non-protein coding DNA segment that shares sequence similarity with the functional DLEC1 (deleted in lung and esophageal cancer 1) gene but is nonfunctional, meaning it does not encode a protein and has no demonstrated biological or therapeutic function[4][7]. Pseudogenes such as DLEC1P1 can be the result of gene duplication or retrotransposition events, and while most do not produce functional products, some may be transcribed at low levels or participate in gene regulation through RNA-based mechanisms; however, there is currently no evidence for DLEC1P1 having such regulatory roles[4][7]. No clinical, disease, or therapeutic relevance has been established for DLEC1P1, and it is not currently considered a therapeutic target or biomarker.
