DNA-binding protein Ikaros (IKZF1) is a transcription factor crucial for lymphocyte development and differentiation. It regulates gene expression through direct DNA binding, dimerization, and chromatin remodeling. IKZF1 acts as a tumor suppressor in B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL), with deletions or mutations frequently observed in this disease. Polymorphisms near IKZF1 are associated with both leukemia susceptibility and protection from type 1 diabetes.
