Overview

Inhibitor of DNA binding protein 1 (ID1) is a member of the helix-loop-helix (HLH) family of transcription factors that lack a DNA-binding basic domain and function as dominant-negative regulators of other basic HLH transcription factors by forming inactive heterodimers. ID1 plays a key role in regulating cell proliferation, differentiation, cell cycle progression, and maintenance of stem cell characteristics by inhibiting the transcriptional activity of E proteins and related factors. ID1 is overexpressed in a wide range of human cancers, promoting tumorigenesis, metastasis, stemness, angiogenesis, chemoresistance, and radioresistance, and has therefore emerged as a potential therapeutic target and biomarker in oncology. Dysregulation of ID1 also impacts normal biological processes, especially hematopoiesis and stem cell homeostasis
