A DNA cross-linking agent is a substance that forms covalent bonds within or between strands of DNA, blocking essential cellular processes such as DNA synthesis, replication, and transcription. These agents are primarily used in cancer therapy to induce apoptosis in rapidly dividing cells by causing irreparable DNA damage. Examples include cisplatin, nitrogen mustards, carmustine, mitomycin C, and psoralen.
