DNA damage via beta radiation refers to the molecular and cellular effects caused by exposure of DNA to beta particles. The primary mechanism involves the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) that induce single-strand breaks (SSBs), double-strand breaks (DSBs), base modifications, and other lesions. Cells respond via DNA repair pathways like BER and NHEJ. Biological consequences range from cell cycle arrest and apoptosis to mutations and genomic instability, relevant in both cancer therapy and radiation toxicity.
