Overview

DNA-directed RNA polymerase II subunit J3 (POLR2J3) is one of three human subunits forming the RPB11 protein family within RNA polymerase II, an essential multi-protein enzyme complex responsible for transcription of protein-coding genes and various functional RNAs in eukaryotes. The gene produces multiple, alternatively spliced transcripts but its protein-coding status in vivo remains uncertain as many variants are candidates for nonsense-mediated decay. In the RNA polymerase II complex, POLR2J3 participates in the core element assembly and may contribute to complex stability and function but is not individually implicated in disease or targeted by drugs. Its main function is as part of the basal RNA polymerase II machinery, enabling the transcription of DNA into RNA.
