Overview

DNA fragmentation factor subunit beta pseudogene 1 (DFFBP1) is a processed pseudogene related to the DNA fragmentation factor subunit beta gene (DFFB), which encodes a protein critical for caspase-activated DNA fragmentation during apoptosis. As a pseudogene, DFFBP1 does not encode a functional protein product, nor does it have a demonstrated physiological, pathological, or therapeutic role. Unlike its parent gene DFFB, which is a true functional endonuclease (caspase-activated DNase), DFFBP1 is considered non-functional; its clinical or biological relevance is negligible unless further evidence arises indicating a regulatory noncoding RNA role, which is not currently documented for this locus. Existing data indicate that most such pseudogenes do not represent therapeutic targets, nor do they yield clinically relevant biomolecules.

Biological functions

None (no known protein-coding or functional RNA product)Related to—but distinct from—biological functions of the parent gene DFFB, which is involved in apoptosis/DNA fragmentation
03

Disease associations

None specific (no established pathogenic or disease-modifying role for DFFBP1)General note: Pseudogenes can sometimes regulate their parent genes at the RNA level, but no evidence is available for DFFBP1 itself.

Safety considerations

None (not a functional or druggable target)
