DNMT2/TRDMT1 is the most conserved member of the DNA methyltransferase (DNMT) family. Primarily acts as an RNA methyltransferase, specifically modifying tRNA^Asp (aspartic acid transfer RNA); specifically methylates cytosine 38 in the anticodon loop. It maintains stability and function of certain tRNAs by catalyzing their cytosine modification. Recent research suggests possible roles for DNMT2/TRDMT1 mutations or altered activity in cancer biology.
