Target intelligence / Profile preview
DNA polymerase alpha catalytic subunit A is the core enzymatic component of the DNA polymerase alpha (Pol α) complex, essential for initiating DNA replication in eukaryotic cells. It synthesizes short DNA fragments on both leading and lagging strands, handing off to other polymerases for elongation. POLA1 interacts with several proteins involved in replication fork progression and cell cycle regulation. Aberrant function can contribute to genome instability and disease.
