Overview

DNA polymerase eta pseudogene 1 (POLHP1) is a pseudogene related to POLH, the gene encoding DNA polymerase eta. Pseudogenes are DNA sequences resembling functional genes but are typically noncoding and lack gene product due to mutations or absence of regulatory elements. POLHP1 does not encode a functional protein, does not demonstrate known biological activities, and is not considered a therapeutic target[1]. DNA polymerase eta (POLH), distinct from POLHP1, is a translesion synthesis DNA polymerase involved in bypassing UV-induced DNA damage. However, this functional activity does not apply to the pseudogene POLHP1, which is nonfunctional[4][6][7]. Note: POLHP1 is not regarded as a therapeutic target, enzyme, or receptor. All established biological roles, disease links, and drug interactions are associated with the functional gene POLH, not with the pseudogene POLHP1[1]. This entry is flagged as "incorrect" for target-based analysis because it is not a functional molecule of pharmacological or biological interest.
