DNA replication fork stabilization factor DONSON pseudogene 1 (DONSONP1)

Target
DONSONP1
Molecular classification
Pseudogene
01

Overview

DNA replication fork stabilization factor DONSON pseudogene 1 (DONSONP1) is a pseudogene located downstream of the functional DONSON gene. Pseudogenes are segments of DNA that resemble functional genes but are typically non-coding and nonfunctional, having arisen during evolution by duplication or retrotransposition events. Unlike its parental gene DONSON, which encodes a critical protein for replication fork stabilization and genome integrity, DONSONP1 does not encode a known protein nor has it been implicated in disease processes or drug actions. There is no evidence that DONSONP1 exerts any regulatory or coding function in cells.

02

Mechanism of action

Not applicable; the pseudogene is not a functional molecule and thus is not targeted by any known drugs

03

Biological functions

None established for the pseudogene itself. Unlike the parental gene DONSON, which is involved in DNA replication fork stabilization, the pseudogene does not have a demonstrated biological function
04

Disease associations

None established for DONSONP1. The functional DONSON gene is associated with microcephaly and other developmental syndromes, but there is no evidence connecting the pseudogene to disease
05

Safety considerations

None. No specific safety concerns or therapeutic challenges associated with this pseudogene
06

Interacting drugs

None
07

Biomarkers

None known. DONSONP1 is not used as a biomarker for disease or therapy monitoring
