The DNA synthesis enzyme complex, or replisome, is a multi-protein assembly responsible for accurate and efficient DNA replication during cell division. It orchestrates the unwinding of double-stranded DNA and synthesizes new complementary strands using existing strands as templates. Key components include DNA polymerase, helicase, primase, single-strand binding protein, topoisomerase/gyrase, sliding clamp, clamp loader, and ligase.
Inhibition of DNA synthesis by targeting individual enzymes within the complex, leading to chain termination or replication fork stalling.
