Overview

Nuclear genomic material—specifically interfering with machinery responsible for accurate duplication/synthesis—by inducing structural lesions that overwhelm cellular coping mechanisms leading predominantly to apoptotic death in susceptible tumor populations. Platinum-based chemotherapies target DNA, leading to the formation of DNA adducts (intra- and inter-strand crosslinks) which disrupt DNA replication and transcription.
