DNA topoisomerase IV subunit B (ParE) is a crucial component of bacterial type II topoisomerases. It forms part of the heterotetrameric enzyme complex, which is essential for chromosome segregation and decatenation of daughter chromosomes after DNA replication. ParE contains the ATP-binding site and is a target for antibiotics such as coumarins and cyclothialidines. Mutations in parE can confer antibiotic resistance.
Inhibits DNA topoisomerase IV activity by binding to the ATP-binding site of the ParE subunit, preventing ATP hydrolysis and DNA strand passage.
