Overview

DNAH5 antisense RNA 1 (DNAH5-AS1) is an antisense non-coding RNA transcript that is transcribed from the DNAH5 gene locus. As a long non-coding RNA, DNAH5-AS1 is presumed to regulate expression of the DNAH5 gene or its genomic neighborhood by mechanisms common to antisense RNAs—such as modulating gene transcription, affecting mRNA stability or translation, and participating in locus-specific epigenetic regulation[2][4]. Antisense RNAs are increasingly recognized as important regulators in a wide variety of biological and pathophysiological processes, including X-chromosome inactivation and cancer[2]. However, there is currently no evidence that DNAH5-AS1 itself is a classical therapeutic target (such as a receptor or enzyme), or that drugs directly target this RNA. It is also not yet directly linked as a biomarker or direct contributor to diseases associated with DNAH5 (such as primary ciliary dyskinesia), though dysregulation of antisense RNAs is a mechanism observed in various disorders[2][4].
