Overview

DnaJ heat shock protein family (Hsp40) member C4 (DNAJC4) is a protein coding gene and a member of the Hsp40/DnaJ co-chaperone family, characterized by a conserved J-domain that regulates the activity of Hsp70 chaperones. DNAJC4 participates in protein homeostasis, particularly through assisting the folding of newly synthesized and misfolded proteins and mediating the response to cellular stress involving unfolded proteins. It is predicted to localize to cellular membranes, based on current protein atlas data. While DNAJC4 is associated with protein folding diseases and multiple endocrine neoplasia by genetic studies, there are currently no known drugs directly targeting DNAJC4, nor is it considered a typical therapeutic target at this time[1][3][5][7][9].
