Overview

DNAJB7 is a cytoplasmic, evolutionarily conserved molecular chaperone and co-chaperone belonging to the DNAJ/HSP40 family. It stimulates ATPase activity in partner chaperones, and is specifically expressed in the testis at the transcript and protein level, especially in early and late spermatids. DNAJB7 is not essential for spermatogenesis or male fertility in mice, probably due to redundancy among DNAJ family members. It has emerged as a cancer-testis antigen, detectable in certain tumors but absent in most normal tissues except the testis, and is under investigation as a candidate immunotherapy target. DNAJB7’s main function is support of protein folding and quality control under stress conditions, in concert with other heat shock proteins

Mechanism of action

Not applicable; DNAJB7 is not a current direct therapeutic drug target. For immunotherapy, the mechanism would be immune recognition of cancer cells expressing DNAJB7 (as a cancer-testis antigen)
