Overview

DnaJ heat shock protein family member C16 (DNAJC16) is a protein-coding gene and member of the Hsp40 (DnaJ) co-chaperone family primarily localized in the endoplasmic reticulum membrane[1][3]. It plays a key role in the regulation of autophagosome size during autophagy and functions as a molecular chaperone involved in protein quality control within the ER. DNAJC16 is expressed in multiple tissues, showing selective marker properties in nervous system cell types such as glial cells, cerebellar granule cells, and astrocytes[4]. There is currently no evidence that DNAJC16 is a direct therapeutic target, nor are there known drugs interacting with this protein or specific disease roles beyond a genetic association with prostatic cyst[1].
