DNAJC19P1 is a processed pseudogene related to DnaJ heat shock protein family member C19 (DNAJC19). Pseudogenes are genomic sequences resembling known genes but usually contain mutations such as premature stop codons or lack promoters, rendering them non-functional for protein coding. While originally considered biologically inconsequential, some pseudogene transcripts can impact gene regulatory networks, mainly by acting as microRNA decoys or competing endogenous RNAs, sequestering microRNAs that would otherwise target their functional gene counterparts. For DNAJC19P1, there is no evidence for protein expression or direct involvement in disease, and it is not targeted by drugs. It should be differentiated from DNAJC19, the actual protein-coding gene associated with mitochondrial function.
