Overview

DnaJ heat shock protein family member C5 gamma (DNAJC5G) is a member of the heat shock protein 40 (Hsp40) family, specifically the DnaJ subfamily C, which acts as a molecular chaperone involved in protein folding, quality control, and the cellular stress response[7][8]. It is structurally related to other DnaJ/Hsp40 family proteins, contains a characteristic J domain for interaction with Hsp70s, and is predicted to localize to the cytoplasm and cellular membranes[6][7][8]. DNAJC5G's major paralog is DNAJC5, a well-characterized synaptic vesicle protein; however, there is limited functional data on DNAJC5G itself in the literature, and there are currently no documented associations with therapeutic drugs, clinical biomarkers, or notable safety issues[7][8]. DNAJC5G is sometimes referred to as CSP-gamma or Cysteine string protein-gamma due to its sequence features and analogy to better-studied family members like DNAJC5 (CSP-alpha)[7][8]. Notes: - DNAJC5G is distinct from DNAJC5 (CSP-alpha): DNAJC5 is known for its roles in synaptic vesicle function and neurodegenerative disease, but there is insufficient evidence that DNAJC5G shares these clinically relevant functions[1][2][3][7]. - There is no indication of direct druggability or receptor/enzyme/transporter activity for DNAJC5G[7][8]. - Disease associations, mechanisms of action, and clinical use as a therapeutic target or biomarker have not been established[7][8].
