DNM3 intronic transcript 1 (non-protein coding), abbreviated as DNM3-IT1, is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) located within the intron of the dynamin 3 (DNM3) gene on human chromosome 1[7][1]. DNM3-IT1 is considered a non-coding transcript and does **not encode a protein**. Instead, it is implicated in the *regulation of gene expression*, particularly through epigenetic and post-transcriptional processes. Several microRNAs (such as miR-214 and miR-199a) originate within this intronic region and are known to play roles in cancer biology by acting as tumor suppressors or oncogenes depending on context, suggesting DNM3-IT1 may exert its effects at least in part by hosting or regulating these miRNAs[1]. DNM3-IT1 itself is **not a traditional therapeutic target like a receptor, enzyme, or transporter**, and there are currently no known drugs directly targeting this lncRNA. However, non-coding RNAs at the DNM3 locus (including DNM3-IT1) may serve as *potential research or prognostic biomarkers* due to their altered expression in disease states, particularly in various cancers[1]. **Note**: DNM3-IT1 should not be confused with the protein-coding DNM3 gene (dynamin 3), which is a microtubule-associated GTPase involved in endocytosis and vesicular transport[2][3][4][5][6]. DNM3-IT1 is strictly a non-coding RNA gene and should be annotated as such; its main biological relevance is in *non-coding RNA-mediated gene regulation*, often through interactions with microRNAs and chromatin-modifying enzymes.
