Overview

DNMBP antisense RNA 1 (DNMBP-AS1) is a long non-coding antisense RNA molecule transcribed from the DNMBP gene region but does not encode a protein. It functions primarily in the post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression, acting as a regulatory sponge for microRNAs like miR-6766-3p. In prostate cancer, DNMBP-AS1 is significantly upregulated and contributes to cancer cell proliferation, migration, and invasion, in part by stabilizing the expression of lysocardiolipin acyltransferase 1 (LCLAT1) through interaction with the RNA-binding protein ELAVL1. DNMBP-AS1 is considered a promising therapeutic target for RNA-based interventions and may serve as a biomarker for certain cancers, although its clinical utility remains under investigation.
