DOCK9 antisense RNA 1 (DOCK9-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) that does not code for a protein but regulates gene expression at the transcriptional and post-transcriptional levels[1]. It has been implicated in the regulation of multiple cellular processes, especially cell proliferation and migration. In vascular smooth muscle cells, DOCK9-AS1 promotes proliferation and migration, potentially contributing to atherosclerosis by stabilizing Wnt5a mRNA through interaction with LIN28B[2]. Additionally, altered expression of DOCK9-AS1 and other lncRNAs has been associated with prognosis in cancers such as glioblastoma[3]. While it has been proposed as a potential therapeutic or prognostic target in preclinical studies, it is not a druggable enzyme, receptor, or transporter in the typical sense. There are currently no known drugs that specifically target DOCK9-AS1 nor established clinical safety concerns.
Acts as a regulatory RNA modulating expression of protein-coding genes through interaction with specific proteins and potentially by acting as a molecular sponge for microRNAs[2].
