Overview

DOP1 leucine zipper like protein A (DOP1A) is a protein-coding gene belonging to the dopey family, characterized by leucine zipper-like domains. DOP1A is implicated in protein trafficking between the late Golgi and early endosomes, and is predicted to function in Golgi to endosome transport and endoplasmic reticulum organization. Orthologs in fungi (yeast and filamentous species) suggest a critical role in cell morphology and developmental structural organization. Pathogenic variants in DOP1A have been linked to neurodevelopmental disorders, apparently related to abnormal myelinogenesis driven by defects in Golgi-endosome protein traffic. DOP1A localizes to the Golgi membrane, endosome, and trans-Golgi network. No current evidence supports DOP1A as a therapeutic target or as the site of action for any known drug.
