Dopamine receptor D2S (D2S)

Target
D2S
Molecular classification
G protein-coupled receptor, GPCR, Receptor
01

Overview

Dopamine receptor D2S (short isoform) is one of two main splice variants of the dopamine D2 receptor, a member of the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) family. The D2S isoform is generated by alternative splicing and differs from the long form (D2L) by lacking a 29-amino acid segment in the third intracellular loop. It functions primarily as an inhibitory autoreceptor on dopaminergic neurons; it regulates synthesis/release via Gi/o-mediated pathways that decrease cAMP production and neuronal excitability.
