The dopamine receptor D5 (DRD5) is a G protein-coupled receptor that belongs to the D1-like dopamine receptor family. It is primarily expressed in the central nervous system and is involved in various functions, including working memory, reward processing, and motor control. DRD5 has a high affinity for dopamine and stimulates adenylyl cyclase activity, leading to increased cAMP production. It exhibits high constitutive activity and plays a role in BDNF induction and Akt phosphorylation.
Agonist binding leads to activation of adenylyl cyclase via Gαs/olf proteins, increasing intracellular cAMP levels.
