Overview

Dopamine receptor interacting protein 1 (DORIP1) is a protein-coding gene product believed to be involved in the regulation of dopamine receptor signaling and related neuronal functions, but its detailed characterization and functional role remain largely unelucidated in the current literature. Dopamine receptor-interacting protein 1 (DORIP1) is an uncharacterized human protein encoded by the DORIP1 gene (HGNC:19834), also known as C14orf28, DRIP-1, and other aliases. Bioinformatic and gene resource annotations predict its involvement in central nervous system pathways, such as dopamine GPCR signaling, NMDA receptor signaling, and cAMP-mediated pathways, suggesting a regulatory function in neuronal signaling, memory, and neurogenesis. However, these roles remain predicted and not experimentally validated. The gene has previously been listed in disease mapping studies for Leber congenital amaurosis 19, but a direct functional or mechanistic connection remains unsubstantiated. No therapeutics, biomarkers, or established physiological mechanisms have been described. There is frequent confusion in the literature between DORIP1 and "DRP1" (dynamin-related protein 1), a completely different, well-characterized mitochondrial protein (gene: DNM1L); DORIP1 should not be mistaken for Drp1.
