Dopamine Receptor Type 2 (DRD2)

Target
DRD2
Molecular classification
G protein-coupled receptor, Receptor
01

Overview

The dopamine receptor D2 (D2R) is a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) encoded by the DRD2 gene. It plays a crucial role in regulating dopamine neurotransmission, influencing motor control, motivation, reward processing, and mood. It exists in two main isoforms, a long (D2L) postsynaptic form and a short (D2S) presynaptic autoreceptor form. D2R is a primary target for antipsychotic drugs and is implicated in several neurological and psychiatric disorders, including Parkinson's disease and addiction. The receptor also forms heteromers with other GPCRs, modulating its pharmacology and functional output.
