Overview

Dorsal sensory nerve rootlets are fine bundles of afferent (sensory) nerve fibers that emerge from the dorsal (posterior) aspect of the spinal cord.[2][5] These rootlets converge to form the dorsal (posterior) root of each spinal nerve, which carries sensory information—including touch, pain, temperature, and proprioception—from peripheral tissues into the central nervous system.[2][5][6] The cell bodies of these sensory neurons are located in the dorsal root ganglion, which is just outside the spinal cord.[1][4] After the dorsal and ventral roots (containing motor fibers) unite, they form a mixed spinal nerve. The dorsal sensory rootlets are critical for normal somatosensory perception but are not molecular, cellular, or pharmacological targets themselves—they are anatomical conduits composed of multiple axons. The "dorsal sensory nerve rootlets" are anatomical nerve structures and not molecular drug targets such as receptors or enzymes. Therefore, they are not generally classified within drug-target databases, and entries such as direct drug interaction, canonical abbreviation, or molecular family do not apply. Disruption or injury to these rootlets underlies a range of sensory neurological disorders, but therapeutic intervention typically targets the underlying pathophysiology or uses surgical, rather than pharmacological, strategies[5].
